I CAN DO WITHOUT IT...

All those shoes in my closet that just don't fit
The hole in my jeans that shows when I sit
A telemarketer any time of the day
Hairspray that doesn't make it stay
An 'F' on my paper when it should 'a been a 'B'
Saying someone else's name when one's addressing me -
I can do without it

Awkward acquaintances stopping to chat
Tiny little girls saying that they're fat
Morning traffic without music on the radio
Staying late at work when it's really time to go
Only white collar crimes covering the news
Someone saying something different when their body gives me clues -
I can do without it

The cut off notice for a bill that was paid late
Dressing up first class when my date was second rate
Getting take-out dinner and they forget the fork
Buying nice wine and then ripping off the cork
Squinting with my mouth open in any snapshot
Trying to act sexy and never getting caught -
I can do without it

Regretting how I acted or what I should have said
Then strumming over it while lying awake in bed
Lighting my cigarette backwards on accident
Important emails to colleagues coming back unsent
Going to give blood, they mess up and bust a vein
Drivers talking on the phone and swerving into my lane -
I can do without it

Early morning rushes to get to work on time
Going to the vending machine and being short a dime
People with huge egos and attitude telling me what to do
Watering a plant for a year and knowing it never grew
Getting dubbed a stereo-type because of my hair or age
Living under par, and getting comfortable in my cage -
I can do without it

Feeling tired all the time, with never really a reason
Having allergies everyday, no matter what the season
Peeing in a public bathroom, any kind at any place
Making love when it's too dark to see my lover's face
People mocking fun when I'm telling them my dream
Not being able to find the words to say what I really mean-
I can do without it
