ExSqeeze me? Did you say what I think you said?

‘Wolf in Sheep's Clothing'

My husband (boyfriend at the time, and not hiding that fact from our neighbors) and I had recently purchased a house together - a beautiful home in a Beaver Cleaveresque neighborhood.

Our first winter was a tough one, and our property received heavy damage from a freak ice storm, we were without power for days, having to heat a portion of the house using only the gas fireplace, which obviously was strictly designed for decorative purposes, rather than REALLY heating our home. Nonetheless, we were freezing and had no choice.

Subsequently I came down with an ear infection, which required me to stay home from work one day. I've never been a real social person, especially with neighbors; you stay on your side of the street and I'll stay on mine; you don't laugh at me when I bend over in the garden and I'll return the favor - it's a delicate balance, and I like to keep it that way.   On this particular day, a neighbor came knocking at my door, just to shoot the shit I guess, and see how we were holding up after the storm.   I told her we were fine, and hoped that she hadn't sustained much damage herself, when she hits me with "Do you regret buying this house?", to which I replied, "of course not, we love it here".   She continues "even with all the damage to the property?", "No, I restate, we have no regrets about buying the property, there's been no permanent
damage, we'll be fine"...and all of the sudden I hear "Well I've been thinking about it because I know that people from the getto have different things to worry about than we do around here" EXQUEEZE ME? (Insert ‘who shit in your wheeties this morning wav file") Where the hell did that come from? I'm standing in my doorway, looking at this woman and I am utterly and complete speechless.   EXSQEEZE ME?

WTF?   ExSqeeze me?   Did you say what I think you said?   Did you just need to screw with someone today, so you came to my home to insult me or what?   Why?   What the hell have we done to deserve this?   We don't have cars on blocks sitting in the front yard!   Are you insane?   Who taught you your manners?   Is this your twisted attempt to endear yourself to me?   My head was spinning, I wish I'd had something to say that could have put her in her place, once and for all.   Unfortunately, I don't actually believe I was able to speak a word, I think I just closed the door and stood inside with my mouth agape.... WE DON'T COME FROM THE GHETTO YOU SNOBBY OLD HAG! And if we did, I'd probably be out there in my new front yard kicking your ass right now for being so very disrespectful.   Hey, I'll admit my social filter is not always fully functional, but my intentions are not malicious when something insensitive slips out.   This bitter old woman is dangerously ignorant.   This saddens me greatly.   And it should sadden you as well, this woman is a Licensed Counselor! Why is it the crazy ones that think if they become counselors then they themselves will become more sane and at peace with the hateful voices in their heads? MY BIG WHITE ASS I'LL EVER BE PLEASANT TO THAT WOMAN AGAIN! Beware of people who attempt to degrade you in order to feel better about themselves, they will show two faces, but only one to you, the sickening grin of a wolf in sheep's clothing.
